Has anyone had a mother cat who bit her babies on the underside of the neck choking them for a bit?

My cat has 3 kittens that are almost 7 weeks old. She has been an excellent mommy so far, very attentative, she keeps them very clean, still nurses and is showing no signs of weaning them, but just a few minutes ago her biggest baby Tigger, was playing with her while she was trying to clean him, and he kept swatting her face. She grabbed him by his throat and he was making a choking noise. She let go and resumed grooming and he swatted her again. She grabbed him again and he started making the noise again ( kinda like keh keh) and she didn't let go right away I pushed her off him after a few seconds. I have seen her mouth them before when they get out of control but never heard them choke. Should I worry about this or is this her discipline? I had one other cat who had babies and she would nip them when they got out of line, I am just concerned because he sounded like he was choking. She kept grooming him afterwards the first time and after I chased her away she came back and he was nursing. He didn't seem bothered at all or scared. The other thing is because they are older, I have never heard of a mommy cat killing or harming them beyond like 2-3 weeks old, so I was thinking he probably just pissed her off when she wanted to give him a bath lol.

haha. You don't need to worry at all. That's the mama's way of disciplining him. She's letting him know that he's going to far and breaking her rules. It's actually a very important part of a kitten growing up. It will help them to behave better as they age.

my cat had kittens to and this was her way of scolding them. It just means shes getting fed-up with him/her. But you probably should keep an eye on her and her kittens just to be safe :)

Cat moms do some very strange things. It sounds as though yours wasn't harming the kitten, but it was some sort of discipline. Cats are generally very very good mothers. We've occasionally had cats who for some reason only known to themselves, decide to pick up the kittens and move them. We have a nice warm, safe birthing box, but the moms will move them behind (say) the toilet, picking up the kittens by the head and occasionally dropping them on the way. We kind of have to trust them (and later move the babies back to the box).

This is just the Momma cats way of stopping inappropriate behaviour. Mother cats do this to maintain order.

I know about the personality of cats. Any mother cat would bite the neck of all her babies. To carry them and would lick them to keep them clean and warm, it is a sign of love.
